How to Build a PC! Step-by-step

  • Noob Tip: If your CPU comes with pre-installed Thermal Paste, make sure you check your fan for it so you don't accidentally touch it. (Like I did since I didn't get the warning in time) I also found out that even though all of my components are compatible, I basically have to run the power for the CPU up through the middle of the GPU, which is physically impossible. I wish PSU makers would give me 6 more inches. My 8 and 4 pin connectors are stretched to the limit and it is ugly. And I am still not sure if it will work short of me putting the PSU in a different spot, like outside my computer.

  • This was without a doubt the most important tutorial I've every watched. It was very informative. I got very anxious trying to build my first desktop pc, and was very intimidated by all the names, parts, screws, wires, and etc. And because of how expensive it was, I was SO worried that I would break something and potentially just waste my money. But this was surprisingly easier than I thought! So if you are reading this, then don't worry. You're gonna do great. It looks intimidating, just do enough research and you'll do absolutely fine.

      MegaMma4lifeMegaMma4life6 hari yang lalu
    • You'll get both sides. Some people will tell you that AMD is absolute garbage and that Intel is the best. Another group of people will tell you the exact opposite. AMD, even though they may not always have the best performance, has almost always been a good value compared to Intel especially with the Ryzen CPUs.

  • Ok so I'm extremely new to pc building, if I put all the parts I want to use in pcpartpicker will it tell me if things like the motherboard and CPU are compatible or do I have to do that myself, also do I have to buy things like Microsoft Office to use my pc, like what types of software do I HAVE to have to use my pc. Someone please help. Edit: do all the parts come with the necessary cables.

    • @Jose Javier Flores ok, thsnkyou so much, I now I have a basic level if understanding anyway since all I have been doing for the past 2 weeks or so is researching compatibility, and just how things work, in the next couple weeks I will have got an income which will out me at around £1800 which I think is plenty to get a good base level pc. thankyou so much for the help. x

    • By default, PCPP has a compatibility filter set. When you choose a CPU, it will only allow you to search for a compatible motherboard (and vice versa) It will also point out potential incompatibilities or problems. My honest advice is to read up us much as you can about computers and the hardware behind one. Once you have a base level amount of knowledge you can start looking into building a PC. Otherwise if you jump straight into it without really understanding what you're doing and why, it may not be a good experience. You need an operating system like Windows or any of the nearly infinite number of linux distros out there. Without one, your PC won't really do much. MS Office is not required to use your computer unless you need it.

  • Thanks for putting this up. This showed me how to build a desktop gaming pc. I did tons of research and tons of build videos. I was kind of skeptical because I had never build a desktop gaming pc before. The build actually took me 3 hours to complete about 5 hours all in all for drivers and windows install and cable management. I originally had a asus rog strix 3070 but it was dead on arrival and I really needed a gpu so i went with a 1050ti. the reason i went with that gpu was because i was not about to spend more than 500 bucks on a gpu 2 years or older and that card had good reviews and didn't need to be hooked up to the psu. So hopefully this card will last until this gpu crisis is over. My build is as follows: Ryzen 7 3700x CPU Be quiet pure rock slim CPU fan Asus Rog Strix b550 f gaming motherboard Asus phoenix 1050ti GPU Corsair 32 gigs of RAM at 3600ghz Crucial M.2 NVME 1tb storage Corsair RM850 Watt gold PSU Phantek Enthoo Pro PC tower 3 Arctic 120 mm fans set for exhaust on top of PC. the case came with a 200 mm intake fan and a 140mm exhaust fan on the back. going to get an AIO later

Got burned by two prebuilts and was forced to build my own just to have something reliable for the basics. being able to easily run modern games is nice though. Though Dell and HP burned me, i did have a good GPU left over from the Dell so i didn't have to pay out the ass for a graphics card during the build. GPU prices are a nightmare post-covid...
